Chelsea hosts Manchester City at the Stamford Bridge in a game from the 6th round of the Premier League. This is going to be an exciting match, so let’s look at it in our soccer predictions online.
European champions Chelsea are leading the Premier League standings after the first six rounds being played. Thomas Tuchel’s team have 13 points and a better goal difference than Liverpool and Manchester City. Their record so far is almost perfect – four wins and one draw. Surely the Blues will compete for the title this season, there’s no doubt about that.
In the previous round Chelsea enjoyed their 4th win for the season. The Blues faced Tottenham Hotspur away from home and achieved a solid 3-0 win against the Spurs. Two defenders scored for the visitors as Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger put the ball in the net. Meanwhile N’Golo Kante scored after the halftime break as well.
Thomas Tuchel made some changes against Tottenham. He decided to leave Reece James on the bench and put the captain Cesar Azpilicueta on the right flank. Meanwhile Thiago Silva took Azpilicueta’s place in defense and even scored one of the goals. Tuchel also left Kante on the bench and put Mateo Kovacic alongside Jorginho while Kai Havertz and Mason Mount supported Romelu Lukaku in attack. The German managed didn’t lose any time and picked N’Golo Kante at halftime which quickly resulted to a second goal for Chelsea.
It’s still not clear if Christian Pulisic will be ready to face Manchester City on Saturday. The American winger continues with his recovery from his latest injury. Most likely he won’t be beating Kai Havertz and Mason Mount for a starting place in the big games, but Pulisic remains a very useful player to pick from the bench. His contribution to the team was impressive so far, but sadly he’s often suffering from injuries.
N’Golo Kante started from the bench against Tottenham because of his latest injury, but there’s no doubt he would be in the starting eleven against City. Kante remains one of the most important players in the team and Thomas Tuchel is aware of this. The Frenchman made an instant impact against Spurs and scored a goal just 12 minutes after entering the pitch. His partnership with Jorginho in midfield is becoming legendary and the fans will remember it for a long time.
Chelsea’s fans will hope that Edouard Mendy will be back in action against the Premier League champions. The 29-years old goalkeeper missed the visit to Tottenham because of an injury, so he was replaced by Kepa in the starting eleven. Mendy remains the number one choice for Thomas Tuchel, so if he’s fit and ready to play he will feature against City. Kepa kept a clean sheet against Spurs, but he’s obviously the second choice at the moment.
Manchester City are facing Chelsea after a very disappointing result in the previous round. Pep Guardiola’s team hosted Southampton at the Etihad, but only won a point after an unexpected 0-0 draw with the Saints. Nothing really worked for the champions in this game, so they lost two important points. City are now 5th in the standings with 11 points – two less than their next opponent.
Guardiola left Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden on the bench against Southampton, but put them on the pitch in the second half. They were supposed to change the game for City, but it didn’t happen. The Spanish international Ferran Torres didn’t play at all, so maybe he will start against Wycombe in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Ferran is a player who Guardiola didn’t use against Southampton, but who could play some part against Chelsea.
Guardiola is not in a good place right now because he’s facing an injury crisis in his squad. Ilkay Gundogan is the latest Man City player to get injured. The German midfielder is now in the same company as Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko who are all dealing with injuries. That’s certainly not good for City as they are facing Chelsea and PSG in the next 10 days. Guardiola had to use Nathan Ake to partner Ruben Dias in defense as John Stones and Aymeric Laporte were unavailable. At the same time Fernandinho had to step up and replace Rodri against the Saints.
There are some players who need to step up in the upcoming crunch games for Manchester City. Jack Grealish is the most expensive English player in history, so he needs to be deciding games like the last one. At the same time Raheem Sterling have scored just one goal since the beginning of the season and we can say the same about Gabriel Jesus, too. In the summer Man City failed to bring a new striker in the team and that’s something which could hurt them in the long run.
The influential captain Kevin De Bruyne should be returning in the starting eleven against Chelsea. The Belgian midfielder was not one hundred percent fit so he played just 25 minutes against the Saints. At the same time Guardiola knows that he’s a player he can’t leave out of the team in such a game. De Bruyne will be crucial for the champions against Chelsea and PSG, especially when Ilkay Gundogan could be out for both of them.
Chelsea and Manchester City will face each other for a first time since their Champions League final in Portugal. It was a glorious night for Thomas Tuchel’s team, but now it’s a different stage – the Premier League. Not so decisive, but a very big game as well.
That’s our soccer predictions online for the Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Manchester City at the Stamford Bridge. The Londoners will try to keep their position of leaders in the league while City must react to the draw they made against Southampton. These two teams are usually offering us great games, so that’s exactly what we expect from them on Saturday.
